Announcement of the 2025 Special Symposium of the Japanese Society of Geographical Sciences/ Geographical Association of Japan100 Year Anniversary Event

The Japanese Society of Geographical Sciences will hold its 2025 Special Symposium (42nd Symposium) / Geographical Association of Japan100 Year Anniversary Event

as detailed below. We hope you will attend.

The symposium will take place over two days, from Saturday, November 29 to Sunday, November 30, 2025. The first day will consist of the symposium at the RCC Culture Center in Hiroshima, and the second day will feature Teaching Tourism Walking Workshop (TeToWaWo) at Setoda Town in Onomichi.

Please apply in advance for both the first and second days. For the symposium on the first day, please apply through Google form (use the QR code on the right, or go to the Google form on the society's website). However, you can also participate on the day. This year, two symposiums will be held on November 29th and December 6th. Please be careful not to make a mistake when applying.

Purpose:

This symposium aims to explore how geography can contribute to tourism studies, with a particular focus on reexamining the content and teaching methods of tourism geography and tourism studies in university education. It seeks to provide a platform for researchers and educators involved in tourism education to share their practices and challenges, and to deepen discussions on the future direction of tourism education.

Day 2 (November 30)Teaching Tourism Walking Workshop (TeToWaWo)

TeToWaWo is a walking-style workshop with a focus on multimodality and multiliteracies, aiming to overcome teacher-centered and classroom-centered approaches in the field of education and learning. Participants deepen their understanding of local communities through walking around while sharing educational and learning practices that move away from teacher-centered instruction. The planned venue is Koneshima, Setoda Town, Onomichi City. The schedule will be announced at a later date.
